Okay. So: what if the woman wasn't saying anything to people who talked to her, but just a exuding a general "stay away" energy? Because she embodied Ruby's future self who's spent her whole life thinking about the fairy circle and wishing they hadn't disturbed it, wishing they'd just stayed away. She appears to her younger self as a reminder of the mistake of not staying away and if Ruby sends anyone over to the woman, they feel the strong STAY AWAY vibes linked to Ruby and stay away from HER.

It could also be a part of the curse that Ruby is supposed to face this alone without help, so any help who interacts with future her is sent away. Maybe the curse is to live a life tortured by the mystery of the distant figure, never able to get close enough to recognise your own features, never able to get help from others, never realising who the figure is until you become it. And maybe the point was to learn to respect the fairy circle and embody the "don't step, stay away from it" energy your whole life until you die, then your spirit is sent back to the moment of your mistake to give you one last chance to prevent and correct it. Only you can be your own salvation, because you need to learn from your own mistake instead of anyone else doing it for you. A version of Ruby lived in a pocket timeline to learn all this and help another her avoid the same mistake.

And maybe since the Doctor apologised for accidentally breaking the circle and seemed respectful while Ruby said it looked like something kids made and started opening the notes, she was the only one who needed to learn to respect it and its significance. So even the Doctor was removed from the equation because Ruby needed to do it alone, and maybe the fairy curse sensed that he's seen so many things that he'd solve it quicker than her and make it too easy instead of her learning for herself.

Eldritch/not-entirely-human Grunkle Stan stories have been eating away at my brain, so I have a silly little concept of Mimic!Stan.

He and his Mystery Shack are both mimics that lure tourists in as a literal "tourist trap" to gather and devour them! Since the house is alive, it raises a few (read: several) child safety concerns that lead to a LOT of rules to be created for Dipper and Mabel to follow when they eventually arrive, such as:

Be careful not to get lost in the winding hallways! The Mystery Shack is bigger on the inside, and you don't want to end up in the wrong areas.

Don't go through randomly appearing doors, they may eat you.

If you think you feel the walls around you breathing and the floor beneath you shifting, no, you don't.

If you think the walls feel a bit damp, you're imagining it.

Watch your fingers around windowsills! You wouldn't want to lose any of them.

Don't linger too long under the doorframes; it may start feeling like they are slowly constricting around you.

THE LIVING MUSEUM: CHAPTER 1

As luck would have it, the detective had a case that had just been given to her by the Chief Constable Barton (talk about a high order!) I watched as she leafed through the folders on her desk before slipping out a small stack of papers and bringing them over to me. Clearing her throat, Detective Layton ran over the details…

“At approximately 2:00pm, a fire alarm in the Natural History Museum sounded. Around 5 minutes later, visitors in the museum reported that they witnessed several exhibits, and I quote, ‘come to life before their eyes.’ There were visitors who told officials that the suits of armour on display had started to move and raise their weapons, visitors who reported that paintings on the walls started to melt and blink, and visitors who said that the dinosaur skeleton exhibits had opened their mouths and moved their heads. But the most damning of all seemed to be the Tyrannosaurus rex exhibit, who not just moved but assumed a lunging stance with its full body, as well as somehow roared.”

“Right, that’s odd. And?”

“Well, since the officials were only able to question the visitors outside of the museum due to everyone having been evacuated because of the fire alarm, naturally they went inside to check the exhibits themselves.”

“And they found…?”

“Nothing. They did a whole sweep of the area, but they found nothing out of place. All exhibits were in their normal places, the paintings were just fine, and everything was untouched.”

“Wow…”

“I assume the reason that Barton held onto what information they had on it and handed it to me was due to the witnesses. Despite the fact that the Yard found no obvious signs of tampering, everyone swears up and down the walls that the museum had seemingly come to life at that moment.”

“...That is a proper mystery. And these files are all we have on the matter?”

“Well, in a sense, yes. These are all the files we have,” Detective Layton muses as she taps the bottom of the stack on the coffee table. Then, getting up, she drops the stack back in their folder. “...Which is why I was thinking of heading over to the museum myself to do a bit of personal investigation.”

“As expected of the great Professor Layton,” I say cheekily as I stand and follow her to the front door, grabbing my jacket off the hanger in the process. The detective sighs lightly as she places her hat on her head, pulling the brim over her eyes in mock disappointment. “Please, Ms. Altava. It's just Detective.”

Now lifting the brim, she smiles brightly as she grabs her umbrella.

“So, Ms. Altava… let’s go investigate this living museum with our own two eyes, shall we?”

And with that, our adventure into the peculiar museum begi-

“Ah, but before that, I have here the directions to the museum written for me by Barton, and it seems to be a puzzle of some sort. As you’re now my assistant, why don’t you give it a shot? Think of it as a warm-up of things to come.”

…Right. She’s Layton’s daughter, after all. How could I have forgotten? …And are we sure they're not really related by blood…?

Shoutout to all the other adults who have acne or any other condition of the skin that you are expected to outgrow or "just deal with."

Adulthood isn't this magical time where everything just disappears, and the reality is that these skin conditions are largely genetic. It isn't your fault (nor your skin's fault) that you are an adult with different skin than other people. In fact, it's neutral (and even, dare I say, good!).

I made a few new wax seal stamps out of clay (like the ones I did for my worldbuilding stuff forever ago), this time just of random symbols that I thought might look good done in the style of painting over the raised part of the wax or etc. :0c Some of them aren't carved deep enough to really show up that well, but overall they worked okay for being clay lol

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!! <3

Wanted to draw a bunch of different pairings so here we go!! I wanted to draw them on how I imagine their dates with each other would go.

Fred and Shaggy started out on a walk but halfway through Fred saw a place they caught a bad guy once and started reminiscing on their good times spent together and who is Shaggy to complain, they definitely went to get food after it though.

Daphne and Fred went to a screening at the Coolsville local cinema where they were showing one of the first ever 3D movies. When the movie is over Fred spends the rest of their date talking about how impressive the improvements to 3D films have been since they were first invented. Daphne doesn't mind that much since she still gets to cuddle and they also probably went to get food after it where Daphne assigns their friends roles in the movie they just watched.

Shaggy and Daphne went to a football game where Shaggy gets to eat very many football game foods such as Hotdogs and whatever else they eat at football games. Daphne isn't even rooting for a team cause at first she wasn't sure about going but it hits halftime and she's caught up in the atmosphere and uses the celebration of any of the teams scoring as an excuse to kiss Shaggy.

Velma and Daphne are working on very important mystery solving and journalism career things on their laptops so they don't have time to go on a date date HOWEVER that will not stop them from flirting through messages as they work. Daphne sends Velma things like videos and songs that remind her of her and Velma can't flirt back so she just sends hearts like a disaster lesbian, good for her tbh.

Ended up in a mildly hellish, panic-inducing situation at work today and had to employ some Coping Strategies and found myself thinking “the Last Word tells me that I am safe and capable.” You’ve created a narrative device so compelling that it found its way into my affirmations! Thank you so much for creating this world and this story, it’s really been a source of joy and comfort to me in a weird time of life and it’s just so so good. Carpenter and VAL in particular really altered my brain chemistry. Hope you and yours are doing well!

(Side note: I had my partner proofread this to make sure it wasn’t too cringe and he said “alternatively, you could pitch him a new podcast: the stilt verses. It’s the same as the silt verses except everyone is mysteriously very tall”)

Thank you so much for writing in and I agree with your partner, it isn't cringe at all! People find the nicest ways to springboard off our weird and horrible little show as they move through their own lives and it's always delightful to hear about. (Also, that sounds like your success more than anything to do with the Last Word or Val, so really well done on the coping strategy and getting through it, and hopefully everything gets a bit less weird-weird and a bit more good-weird for you)
